Dick was my boss when I was at the Ministry of Supply (Woolwich Arsenal). My colleague, Tony (alas now gone) and I played him up but he took it all in good spirit and I am honoured to have known such a gentleman and am saddened that he has gone. Sleep well, Dick. Owen

I only knew Paddy during the latter years of his life, and what a brilliant example he set. Despite the ups and downs of a prolonged illness he continued to enthuse about gardening, jazz, poetry and socializing. A big handsome man, uplifting to talk to and good to have known.
